INTENSIVE ALCOHOL USE THERAPY

An 8-week intensive for the pattern you understand but still can't seem to change. Group therapy three times a week and one individual session every week.
Real support, at the pace real change requires.

You can see the pattern clearly after the fact.

You know when you're reaching for a drink. You know what it costs you: the morning after, the promises you've made yourself, the things you keep meaning to change. In the moment, though, it can feel as if your body has already made the decision.

That's not a failure of willpower. It's your nervous system doing what it learned to do. This intensive works with what's underneath the pattern, not just the drinking itself, whether or not you've decided to stop entirely.

The Approach

Beneath the explanation, there's a nervous system.

This is clinical work, and it uses methods with evidence behind them. The intensive draws on Pamela Dobbie, LPC's 22 years of experience, a career that began in residential treatment and continued in outpatient substance abuse and trauma therapy.

It combines:

CBT: identifying and changing the thought patterns that drive the drinking.

Brain retraining: practicing new responses until they become your default.

EMDR: reprocessing the experiences that still have a hold on you.

Trauma and attachment work: tending to the relationships and experiences that shaped how safe connection feels.

Somatic work: working with the alarm your body sounds before you've "decided" anything.

Education: how alcohol, stress and the nervous system actually work, so your choices make sense.

Recovery nutritional education: rebuilding the physical baseline alcohol and stress have been drawing down.

We'll choose a focus and a pace that fit you, and you'll practice responding differently in your actual life, not just in session.

"You may understand exactly why you reach for a drink and still find yourself doing it again. In our work, we pay attention to the pattern as it happens: in your thoughts, your choices, your relationships and your nervous system." Pamela Dobbie, LPC

What We Work On Together

Change that holds, because it goes deeper than the habit.

The moment before the drink. Learning to notice the alarm, the shutdown or the relief your body is seeking, early enough to choose differently.

The experiences underneath. Old experiences and relationships can still drive present behavior. EMDR, attachment work and somatic work help set them down.

What drinking has been doing for you. Alcohol usually solves something, badly. We find out what, and build responses that actually work.

Life around the pattern. Relationships, work, sleep, food and stress: the conditions that make the pattern more or less likely.
